OH

CANADA

It’s more like “Oh? Canada!” Like “Oh look there is a bunny in the backyard!”, or like “Oh people are actually so nice here, as advertised”, and like “Oh I can’t believe I live here now…”. It has been such a pleasant surprise, beyond my expectations for a new home. Oh Canada is my appreciation for this place that gave me so much inspirations.

Ontario

Canada

Moving to Canada was one of the biggest decision we ever made together, especially since I never even been to the country before that. Years later, we are grateful for the courage to see it through, and what an experience it has been.

Our view in Shanghai

Our view in Markham

Shanghai is a different world, comparing to anywhere in Canada, in every aspect of life. Luckily, that difference is everything we came for. Waking up by the songs of the birds, having dinner watching one stunning sunset after another, I feel so much closer to the spirit of the nature. This place is special to me personally, because it helped opening up a lot of knots in my heart, I feel free.

We actually have a family of bunnies living in our backyard, or should I say we moved in with a family of bunnies. They don’t really make an effort to be friends, but we love them very much.

It feel like we floated here on an air balloon with our hopes and dreams, pulled in by a world of nature.

We don’t have a lot of fancy things, we just needed this place to be a keepsake of our journey.

We regularly host a variety of small friends at our house, I’m also running out of storage on my phone because of them. For the longest time I forgot we are a part of nature, living in Shanghai for so long.

hamilton,

Ontario

Hamilton is a great place to hike, bike or just simply be in nature. I only knew later on, about Hamilton’s rich history and industrial heritage. Centrally located in the Ontario Golden Horseshoe, Hamilton boasts a vibrant arts scene alongside over 100 breathtaking waterfalls. It’s truly a unique blend of urban revival and stunning natural beauty.

Hamilton is the geographic center of the "Golden Horseshoe", a densely populated, horseshoe-shaped major economic area in Southern Ontario.

Hamilton holds significant military history, most notably as the site of the pivotal War of 1812 Battle of Stoney Creek.

We always have a great time hiking in Hamilton, I would’ve never thought it’s a industrial city because of the endless green.

Traveling

with

My Wife

Traveling is a big passion in the Yang household. There are so many places we plan to go and see, because we always want to understand more about this vast and rugged land. I hope these select works would encourage you to go and explore more.

Markham

Go Station

There is something special that attracted me to this fun little building, ever since the first time I stepped off the Markham Go Station. Turns out, this is a heritage railway station that was built in 1871.

I started with just an illustration of the station. I initially tagged it “From Markham with Love”, since the purpose of train stations is to connect people.

Seeing the old photos really gave me perspective about the path I walk on everyday. Who would’ve thought a Chinese kid would have all these feelings about an old Canadian train station.

I wish I can build an identity for every one of these historical stations, like Moscow Metro stations, just so something else can represent where I live, other than a soccer team.

The Markham station is our primary train station. Every morning, people from Markham come here to get to work, another step closer to the life of their dreams. We’ve been here countless times, and yet I find something new every time I’m here.

Small

Adventures

We love exploring the local spots, it is so cool to be able to drive 20 mins and paddle board on a lake. I hope these trees and lakes will be preserved, no matter how much money they offer to buy them off. These small adventures are the ones that strengthens our love for this place.

Canadian

Christmas

Winter wonderland really exists here, and it’s glorious. I didn’t grow up with Christmas at all, so a lot of this feels like a movie in real life. Every season has its special place in Canada, there is always something to look forward to.

Food, trees, decorations, we do it all. Christmas is food for the soul, allowing us to appreciate another year of our journey. I have enjoyed every aspect of Christmas so far, and it just means so much more here, where the world is covered in white,

There is something really cool about walking on a frozen lake. With time, we are finding out more and more about these cool things we can do in Canada.
